Lucasfilm has announced that the Ryan Gosling-led Star Wars: Starfighter finally started production in the UK after months of anticipation.
For years, it has been reported that director Shawn Levy was working on his own Star Wars movie. The project's existence was not confirmed until the Celebration event earlier this year, where Gosling's involvement and the Starfighter title were revealed. Now, we have a new exciting update that fans have been waiting for.
Who is Joining Ryan Gosling in the Star Wars: Starfighter Cast?

Aside from announcing the start of production, Lucasfilm has also unveiled the full cast for Shawn Levy's Star Wars: Starfighter.
Joining Gosling in the cast are Flynn Gray, Amy Adams, Aaron Pierre, Mia Goth, Matt Smith, Simon Bird, Jamael Westman, and Daniel Ings.
There are no details yet regarding the roles that they are playing in the film. However, Gosling and Gray are expected to play the main leads as teased by the sneak photo that Lucasfilm also released.
All aforementioned cast members have not been involved in the Star Wars franchise before. However, Smith was almost cast in The Rise of Skywalker, but his role was removed from the final cut.
There were also previous reports that Oscar-winning Mikey Madison was in talks to join the film, but she ended up turning down due to an alleged salary dispute.
What to Expect in Star Wars: Starfighter
The plot details regarding Star Wars: Starfighter are currently under wraps, but it is a standalone movie that is set in a timeline that has never been explored in Star Wars before.
"I feel a profound sense of excitement and honor as we begin production on Star Wars: Starfighter. From the day Kathy Kennedy called me up, inviting me to develop an original adventure in this incredible Star Wars galaxy, this experience has been a dream come true, creatively and personally," Levy said in the announcement.
"Star Wars shaped my sense of what story can do, how characters and cinematic moments can live with us forever. To join this storytelling galaxy with such brilliant collaborators onscreen and off, is the thrill of a lifetime."
Aside from directing, Levy also serves as producer alongside Kathleen Kennedy. Jonathan Tropper wrote the script. The film is slated for release in theaters on May 28, 2027.
