It's hard to imagine Qui-Gon Jinn as being helpless, considering how confident he was when we first met him in the Star Wars prequels. However, there was a time when Liam Neeson's character was once a young padawan who made certain mistakes. Interestingly, Star Wars may have revealed that Qui-Gon once needed to be rescued by none other than Count Dooku himself.
In the new Star Wars novel Master & Apprentice, fans will be introduced to a young Qui-Gon Jinn when he was still training under a Master who would later turn to the Dark Side. An excerpt from Claudia Gray's book offers a glimpse at Qui-Gon being captured by a notorious bounty hunter named Shenda Mol (via StarWars.com). The villainess reveals to the padawan that she intends to make him part of her "game" when she learns he is only fourteen years old.
An excerpt from Master & Apprentice reads as follows:
That certainly was a close call. Although the excerpt focuses on Qui-Gon and Dooku, most of the novel is about Qui-Gon when he finally gets an apprentice of his own in Obi-Wan Kenobi. Needless to say, this is one book we can't wait to read!
Master & Apprentice will be available starting April 16.
