Star Wars Production Designer Reveals A Scrapped Spinoff Returning To Tatooine

Lucasfilm might be planning to move on from the main Star Wars saga to introduce the stories of new characters and new locations in everyone's favorite galaxy far, far away, but it seems like the studio once thought of returning to Luke Skywalker's home planet, Tatooine, in a scrapped spinoff.

Speaking in an interview with Cinema Blend, Star Wars production designer Neil Lamont opened up about Lucasfilm's plans to work on a spinoff that would have brought fans back to Tatooine. Unfortunately, it seems like the project was put to a halt before it could even begin.

"We were just starting our work on another Star Wars spin-off," Lamont said. "We were actually just making our mark on Tatooine — which would have been interesting and some other new galaxies. So hopefully, if that comes back, we'll get the chance to be able to do that further."

Right now we're not quite sure which Star Wars spinoff Lamont is referring to in the interview. Could he have meant the Boba Fett spin-off? Or the Obi-Wan Kenobi spinoff (which honestly sounds more likely).

It's pretty hard to tell right now, knowing that Lucasfilm has been keeping relatively quiet about its plans after Star Wars: Episode IX. Sure, the studio might be working onThe Last Jedi director Rian Johnson's new trilogy and the Game of Thrones series creators D.B. Weiss and David Benioff's series of Star Wars films, but there haven't been any major updates about the studio's future projects just yet.

Guess we'll just have to wait and see whether this Star Wars spinoff returning to Tatooine resurfaces or not.
