Finding out that you might have a chance to appear in Star Wars might be one of the biggest moments of anyone's life, but the day that Oscar Isaac found out that he had a chance to play a part in Star Wars: The Force Awakens, he had been pranked by his A Most Violent Year co-star and Hollywood veteran, Albert Brooks.
Speaking in an interview with GQ, Isaac recalled the first time he learned that J.J. Abrams wanted to meet him in Paris for his secret Star Wars project, The Force Awakens. Back then, the actor was still working on the shoot of A Most Violent Year, a crime drama directed by JC Candor where Isaac was starring opposite Brooks and Jessica Chastain.
According to Isaac, when Brooks found out about the pending Star Wars offer, he decided to pull a phone prank on his A Most Violent Year co-star.
"I actually still have the voice message saved," Isaac told the publication during the interview. "I remember in between shooting I got a message from an unknown caller, and it was a voice. It was like, ‘Hey Oscar, it's J.J. Ya know, you don't have to come all the way out to Paris. What're you gonna do, play a droid? You don't need to be doing that…actually, this is Albert Brooks.'"
Apparently, the prank worked for a while on Isaac, and now the actor's pretty happy that he managed to keep the voice message that Albert sent him. Of course, Isaac eventually went out to Paris to meet up with Abrams and Star Wars producer Kathleen Kennedy. The actor was offered the role of Resistance fighter pilot Poe Dameron, and while the character was only set to have a smaller role in the franchise, the actor managed to convince Abrams to give Poe a larger part in the franchise.
Isaac is set to reprise his role as Poe in Star Wars: Episode IX which premieres December 20, 2019.
