In case you missed it, there have been reports suggesting that Darth Maul was supposed to appear in Obi-Wan Kenobi. Unfortunately, the former Sith Lord's scenes were filmed then promptly cut from the limited Star Wars series. So is it possible that there was another reason why Maul isn't in the upcoming Disney+ show? There are speculations that Ray Park's previous Instagram scandal led to his character being dropped from the project!
It was previously reported that Ray Park had been tapped to reprise his role as Darth Maul in Obi-Wan Kenobi. However, the series underwent a major creative overhaul and the character was ultimately replaced with Darth Vader, leading to Hayden Christensen being called in to play the show's major villain.
It's an understandable decision considering that people are looking forward to seeing Kenobi face off against Darth Vader all over again. However, some are convinced that there was another reason why Maul was written off from the series. According to some fans, there's a possibility that Ray Park's lewd Instagram scandal made Lucasfilm and Disney decide against using him for the project.
Back in 2020, Ray Park went viral on social media without any warning. Naturally, fans believed it had something to do with Darth Maul's return but were shocked to find that the Phantom Menace actor had posted an NSFW video of himself and his wife. Even then, people started questioning whether Park would be brought back in a new Star Wars series.
For now, it isn't even confirmed that Darth Maul was supposed to be in Obi-Wan Kenobi. Nevertheless, it looks like the decision to bring in Darth Vader instead of Maul was the best choice for the Star Wars series.
Obi-Wan Kenobi will bring back Star Wars prequel trilogy actors Ewan McGregor, Hayden Christensen, Joel Edgerton, and Bonnie Piesse. The limited series will premiere on Disney+ on May 24, 2022.
