Star Wars: Episode IX Theory Suggests A Strange End for Rey And Kylo Ren

Star Wars fans might have a lot of questions on their mind as they wait for the release of Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker, but one thing is clear, the relationship between Rey (Daisy Ridley) and Kylo Ren (Adam Driver) is going to be a major thread in the film.

There's always been a strong connection between the two, and in Star Wars: The Last Jedi fans get to see a potential romance building up between the two – a romance that ends with one choosing the Dark Side, and one choosing the Light. While some continue to hope for the redemption of Kylo Ren in The Rise of Skywalker, others speculate a different path for Rey as well as the estranged son of Leia (the late Carrie Fisher) and Han Solo (Harrison Ford).

According to this intriguing Episode IX theory by Redditor Brilee93, Rey and Kylo are going to be revealed as "two halves of one whole." This Star Wars fan points at symbolism provided in the previous sequel trilogy entries to help add to his/her argument, including moments where the ground splits between Rey and Ren in The Force Awakens and moments where Snoke talks about the Light coming up to meet the Darkness.

This theory posits that the two characters really do interconnect, almost like one person in two bodies.

"Kylo dies redeeming himself, but he will live on through Rey," Brilee93 concludes. "The ending scene of TROS is her looking at her reflection and seeing Ben looking back at her."

It's a pretty interesting theory, if not a wild one. Imagine Rey and Ren in one body together. The idea of Rey and Ren being "two halves of one whole" does sort of make sense considering that the characters have always been presented as two sides of one coin, but the end of the theory just seems a bit too farfetched.

What do you think? Will we get to see Ren living through Rey? Feel free to share your thoughts in the comment section below.

Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker premieres December 20, 2019.
