Dave Filoni has been involved in the Star Wars franchise since working in The Clone Wars. He has subsequently shepherded all animated projects and introduced new characters in the franchise that have become beloved by fans since then.

When The Mandalorian came to the scene, Filoni became involved in live-action TV projects as he worked with Jon Favreau to produce the series and direct episodes as well.

He has also created the recently-aired Ahsoka which followed the live-action adventures of Ahsoka Tano and the main characters from Rebels years after the events of the animated series.

Now, to the good news of many fans, Filoni is taking a bigger position at Lucasfilm where he is going to oversee all projects in the franchise.

According to Vanity Fair, Filoni has been promoted to chief creative officer at Lucasfilm where he will shepherd all Star Wars projects alongside president Kathleen Kennedy and head of development Carrie Beck.

As a result, he is now involved in the development of all movie and TV projects in the franchise from the very beginning.

"Now I’m what’s called chief creative officer of Lucasfilm. In the past, in a lot of projects I would be brought into it, I would see it after it had already developed a good ways," Filoni told the outlet.

"In this new role, it’s opened up to basically everything that’s going on. When we’re planning the future of what we’re doing now, I’m involved at the inception phase."

Filoni also explained that he will be collaborative with the directors and writers who will come on board to work on the projects and serve as their mentors similar to what George Lucas did to him when he was making The Clone Wars.

"I’m not telling people what to do. But I do feel I’m trying to help them tell the best story that they want to tell. I need to be a help across the galaxy here, like a part of a Jedi Council almost," he said.

"Literally, hours now of Star Wars storytelling I have done. See... I even phrased that like Yoda."

Despite his massive promotion, Filoni will still continue developing his movie as well as a potential second season of Ahsoka.

This is wonderful news for many fans, especially those who have loved Filoni's work in the franchise since he now has input in every single aspect of the development of all projects, especially at a narrative level.

It will take some time before we'll see the effect of Filoni's new position in the studio but it could be a promising sign of what's about to come in the next few years since he is now one of the important people who will be making decisions regarding the future of the franchise.
