The Star Wars: Age of Republic comics have been a treat to both fans and detractors of the Star Wars prequels. Offering more character and depth to the cast of these movies, fans have been loving these issues and they're only going to get better. In the most recent issue, Star Wars: Age of Republic - General Grievous #1, we get some more fascinating development from one of the prequel's biggest characters/jokes.
In this one-shot, the creative team of Jody Houser and Luke Ross decided to explore the inner machinations of the former Kaleesh warrior-turned-cyborg, revealing something that could have been really horrifying; Grievous had a connection to the Dark Side. Big emphasis on "had," as the issue reveals why he lost that connection.
As the alien grew obsessed with killing Jedi, Grievous ended up completely changing his body and no longer resembles the alien he once was. However, the literal stripping of his skin also cost him whatever connection he had with the Dark Side. Grievous found this out after he wandered into a temple and looked for a gem, which ended up leading him to a dark dimension where he was confronted and taunted by the Dark Side of The Force.
Grievous doesn't believe this at first until the Force actually strips the cyborg of his metal form and reveals his Kaleesh self. Horrified by this, Grievous escapes and bombs the temple. It's a fun little one-shot and introduces a number of interesting possibilities, with fans likely debating how Grievous would have been like if he were a Sith Lord.
