Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker might be one of the most highly anticipated films of the year, yet fans don't know that much about the third and final installment in Lucasfilm's sequel trilogy.
Lucasfilm has been particularly careful about keeping the secrets of Episode IX to itself – after all, there's a whole lot riding on the film. Not only is The Rise of Skywalker going to close the curtain on the sequel trilogy, but the movie is also going to culminate the entire Skywalker Saga.
While some fans are concerned that the film might not live up to expectations, Star Wars newcomer Keri Russell's reaction to the film promises that The Rise of Skywalker is definitely going to satisfy fans when it hits cinemas later this year.
Speaking in an interview with Associated Press,Episode IX star Keri Russell revealed that she actually cried the first time she read J.J. Abram's version of the script.
"When I read his script that he wrote I cried," she said. "I mean who knows what it will turn out to be and I hope it remains true to what he originally wanted."
A new face in the franchise, Russell is set to play the role of Zori Bliss, a character many suspect to be a bounty hunter. Speaking about Episode IX's writer and director, the British actress explains why Abrams is the best person to helm The Rise of Skywalker.
"He's not trying to change it to be something else," Russell said of Abrams. "He really respects what it is."
That's pretty assuring. Fans are expecting a lot from Episode IX, and many are hoping that unlike Star Wars: The Last Jedi, the film won't try to subvert expectations as much as it should.
Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker premieres December 20, 2019.
