Star Wars Actress Admits Rian Johnson Spoiled The Last Jedi Plot Twist

There were a lot of things that we didn't expect in Star Wars: The Last Jedi, from the shocking revelation about Rey's true parentage to Luke Skywalker trolling Kylo Ren in the most epic way on the planet Crait. We also weren't expecting the new character named Vice Admiral Holdo to make the ultimate sacrifice to save the Resistance. However, Laura Dern admitted that she knew all along because that plot twist was already spoiled by Rian Johnson.

In a new video for Vanity Fair, Dern admits that the director of The Last Jedi recruited her for the film but didn't immediately tell her that he was working on a Star Wars movie. Johnson reportedly told her what happens to Holdo and she was thoroughly impressed with the story.

"Rian Johnson invited me to lunch to talk about a role in a movie. He started to talk about this thing he was writing and how he was seeing it and describing this world. ‘It's just like in space when everything is so overwhelming and you have to take command of your ship,'" Dern revealed.

Interestingly, Dern didn't know that Johnson was talking about a Star Wars film and was completely blown away when she realized she would be a part of The Last Jedi. "I was like, ‘are you f--king kidding, I'm sorry, you're making a Star Wars movie?!' He did 10 minutes describing a Star Wars movie and I thought it was some indie movie," she said.

It all worked out in the end and Dern admitted that she was moved to tears when she finally started working on the film.

"I got to set and they rolled camera and I opened my eyes, and they yelled ‘action', and I was staring at C-3PO and I started to cry. Literally, I had to cut, it was so shocking. Because we've all pretended in our rooms at six, to have a lightsaber… it's magic. What an amazing thing to be part of that," Dern stated.

Star Wars: Episode IX will premiere on December 20.
