Sony's Spider-Verse franchise made a huge cultural impact in the animation world. While fans are restless waiting for the third installment, Beyond the Spider-Verse just received a disappointing release date update.
Spider-Verse 3 Gets Shortest Waiting Time in the Franchise
It hasn't been long since Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse left fans with a cliffhanger, antsy to wait for a part 2, aka Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse.
Since this sequel marked the second-highest-grossing movie of 2023, there was no doubt that Sony Pictures would be more invested in finishing the animated franchise with a bang.
However, according to a recent report, it would seem that fans will have to wait longer before Spider-Verse 3 could grace the big screens once more.
The Cosmic Circus journalist reported that fans won't be seeing Miles Morales swing back into theaters for at least 2-3 more years: "They're working hard on it, and I'm hearing a lot of cool things for it. As for a potential release, I'm hearing we're still 2-3 years out."
Beyond the Spider-Verse was previously slated for a March 29 release this 2024, however, Sony has once again moved its release date indefinitely as of writing.
Given the extreme working conditions the animators had to go through in creating Across the Spider-Verse, taking more time with the third should only be fair to the crew and fans in ending the franchise.
It is worth mentioning though that despite the long years of waiting, Spider-Verse 3 would become the franchise's shortest time to create the next flick, considering that Into the Spider-Verse released in 2018, with Across the Spider-Verse swinging 5 years later.
While it remains to be seen if the threequel would stick to the 3-year plan, the report also stated that we can potentially expect a Miles Morales from Earth-616 to join the MCU soon. Possibly before the Multiverse Saga is over.
