Despite the critical bomb that was Venom, Sony is still pushing forward with their "Spider-Verse" films, the next one coming out later this year being Morbius starring Jared Leto. Though Spider-Man didn't make an appearance in Venom, rumor has it that he will be in this next movie—but not essentially in a cameo.
According to DR Movie News, Spider-Man will appear in Morbius in the form of "Wanted" posters. Not necessarily printed out posters, but headlines possibly saying that he's a menace. Of course, we don't know to what extent these Spider-Man photos will appear, but it would make sense for Sony to try and link this film to the bigger franchise.
We don't know what direction the Morbius movie will go, but it looks like they could go the same way as Venom and present The Living Vampire as an antihero. Personally I would have loved it if he just stayed a villain for a while because that would then make a clash with Spider-Man make sense—then his eventual turn much more meaningful.
At some point, I was admittedly hoping that Morbius would fail so that Sony would try to get Marvel Studios to be more involved in the creative process, but with the new deal struck with Disney, I'm hoping we can have an MCU-quality-of-film when it comes to this Spider-Man spinoff.
Morbius is directed by Daniel Espinosa and stars Jared Leto as the lead. The film is set to come out this July 31.
