Spider-Man: Far from Home’s Ending Was Made to Mirror ‘Iron Man’

[SPOILERS FOR SPIDER-MAN: FAR FROM HOME]

If you've watched the promos for Spider-Man: Far from Home, there's a lot of emphasis on Spider-Man being the MCU's new Iron Man. In fact, the movie is very evident when it comes to these comparisons that even the end when Peter's identity is revealed is reminiscent to the end of the first Iron Man movie.

Talking to Entertainment Weekly, director Jon Watts explains:

The other interesting parallel for the reveal is that it's similar to the way the first Iron Man ends. The whole movie, we're asking, "Is Peter going to be the next Iron Man? Who's gonna step up?" At the end of the first Iron Man, Tony chooses to reveal his identity to the world. And when you're dealing with Peter Parker, he has the worst luck, so everything bad that could happen always seems to happen to Peter. So we thought, why not take that choice away from him? If he was potentially thinking — after facing all these lies and all this deception —about maybe revealing his identity to the world, let's take that choice away from him and suddenly thrust him into a world that we've never seen before on film.

What's interesting is, Peter Parker is the only hero in the MCU whose identity was unknown. As far as we know, the whole world is aware of the identity of the Avengers and it's a really big bombshell when Peter is outed as Spider-Man. How can he even expect to work at the Daily Bugle after this? Can he even keep going to high school after this?

If anything, some fans speculate that Peter will somehow get out of this with the help of Nick Fury and some Skrulls. Then again, I'm always open to something a bit more out of the box and unpredictable.

For now, catch Spider-Man: Far from Home in theaters today.
