Netflix’s Scott Pilgrim animated series was released over a week ago, and it has garnered lots of praise, enough that fans are hoping for a new season. Sadly, that won’t happen anytime soon, as Bryan Lee O’Malley said that there are no plans for Scott Pilgrim Takes Off Season 2.
O'Malley was interviewed recently by Deadline alongside series co-creator BenDavid Grabinski. There, the two shared that a second season may not happen anytime soon, if at all.
Bryan Lee O'Malley Denies Scott Pilgrim Season 2 Plans
Scott Pilgrim Takes Off is an animated series that was released on Netflix on November 17. The show got a lot of hype from Scott Pilgrim fans as it brought back the cast from the live-action film.
On top of this, the show was animated by Science SARU (of The Heike Story and the upcoming Dandadan anime), which helped give it a distinctive look that captured the feel of the original comics.
Despite some controversy around the fact that it’s not a straightforward adaptation, the Scott Pilgrim anime got rave reviews.
Sadly, even though the reviews are positive, there won’t be a new season in the works soon, based on the recent interview with its creators.
In the interview, O’Malley said that the first season is “self-contained for now.” He also said that “it would take about 50 different miracles simultaneously for another season to happen.”
Grabinski also remarked along similar lines, saying that they aren’t working on a new season and there are no official ideas for a continuation.

Scott Pilgrim Takes Off Season 2 May Not Completely Be Off the Cards
Of course, that’s not to say the door is closed off for good. O’Malley didn’t word his statement as a definitive dismissal of Season 2 plans. In fact, he said that he will “never say never” regarding a continuation.
Grabinski was also careful to not close the door. He said that maybe someday, a new season will be made if they manage to cook up a good idea for it.
Even if the show never gets a new season, fans can take solace in the fact that the first season tells a complete and satisfying story.
Scott Pilgrim may not get a new season soon, but Netflix does have lots of upcoming animated projects on its slate, including the highly anticipated Arcane Season 2, which will be released next year.
