The Wayan Brothers, who created the first two Scary Movies, are officially back!
The comedians confirmed in 2024 that Scary Movie 6 is underway. They made their announcement back in April at CinemaCon, where Marlon, Shawn, and Keenen Ivory Wayans will be penning the upcoming return.
"We're back!!! After nearly 20 years, the Wayans Brothers are finally going to give fans what they've been asking for..." Marlon wrote on October 30, "...a return to the Scary Movie franchise! We're looking forward to having fun on the big screen again."
"We are thrilled to reunite Scary Movie with the Wayans Brothers, the brilliant creators behind the beloved franchise," Miramax CEO Jonathan Glickman said in a statement obtained by THR, "The timing is perfect to bring back the series to the big screen and we're lucky to have Keenen, Marlon and Shawn's unique comedic vision bringing it to audiences around the world."
The original Scary Movie was released in 2000 and spawned four horror spoof sequels, with the last being the 2013 Scary Movie 5.
Marlon teased that Scary Movie 6 will be "no holds barred and equal opportunity offenders."
Scary Movie 6 Reunion May Reclaim the Franchise
During a recent appearance on Shannon Sharpe's podcast Club Shay Shay, Marlon Wayans detailed how Harvey and Bob Weinstein "took the franchise from us", which explains why they were off the screens in Scary Movie 3 to 5.
When the Wayans Brothers pitched their third movie to the Weinsteins, "They go, 'We loved it. We're going to make an offer.'"
However, the Weinsteins' offer was way too low to hop on board, especially since the Wayans were looking to make more money after the financial success of the first two films.

However, much to the Wayans' surprise, the Weinsteins "stole the idea for the third one. [They] took the idea we pitched them."
David Zucker, who came on board to direct the third film, admitted some behind-the-scenes to British GQ. According to him, he was hired by Bob Weinstein and was initially told that they were creating a film based on Signs and The Ring.
Craig Mazin, who penned the third flick, was apparently told, "I showed up and [Weinstein] said, 'I think the Wayans are going to come up with another parody movie. I need to have Scary Movie 3 out before them.'"
Notably, Scary Movie 6 will not only reunite the Wayans Brothers but also multiple original cast members, including Anna Faris, Regina Hall, Lochlyn Monroe, Jon Abrahams, Dave Sheridan, Cheri Oteri, and Chris Elliott.
New actors joining the franchise in the sixth installment are Damon Wayans Jr., Kim Wayans, and Heidi Gardner.
When is Scary Movie 6 Slated to Premiere on the Big Screen?
The Scary Movie 6 trailer did not disappoint. Apart from the long-anticipated returning cast members, the teaser showed a couple of movies they plan to spoof upon its premiere on the big screens on June 12, 2026.
The first Scary Movie premiered in July 2000 and took home $42 million at the domestic box office, which at the time set records for the biggest opening weekend for an R-rated horror film and a Black director.
Marlon and Shawn Wayans wrote and starred in the first two movies, and it's time they take back what's theirs in Scary Movie 6.
