Before becoming widely known as Deadpool, Ryan Reynolds was first off known as the Green Lantern in his own solo film, and then eventually worked alongside Hugh Jackman’s Wolverine in X-Men Origins: Wolverine. Now, upon the fast approaching release date of the Deadpool-Wolverine tandem debuting within the MCU, Reynolds has something to say about the previous film they had worked on together.

“Everyone’s expecting me to eviscerate Hugh Jackman, but I will say he was one of the first movie stars I ever worked with, back in 2007,” Reynolds told in a recent interview with Variety, before going off to hilariously blast the origin film they both starred in, “On an absolute trash fire called X-Men Origins: Wolverine — that one was on him.”

It’s a known fact that Reynolds and Jackman had done nothing short when it comes to fully promoting their upcoming MCU debut in Deadpool 3, that said, the duo have been pretty on the nose on teasing their on-screen counterparts’ chemistry, or their “lack” thereof.

Self-deprecating humor has always been a trademark for what makes Deadpool stand out from the rest of the comic book heroes. Not only is his meta-humor reeling in fans and his audiences to see more of what else he can do on screen, but it has turned out to be one of Reynolds’ greatest traits that came in handy to promote Deadpool 3 with Hugh Jackman playing along.

It’s no question that X-Men Origins: Wolverine has not exactly been a widely known fan-favorite of the franchise, especially seeing as Deadpool 2 (2018) scored the highest box office record among the past X-Men films.

Now, seeing Reynolds and Jackman remake their own duo version with more spice upon debuting under the billion-dollar franchise, MCU fans are even more ecstatic to see how this tandem will work within the MCU, given that the multiverse and even more superhero cameos are bound to happen.

Marvel Studios’ Deadpool 3 is currently slated to premiere on November 8, 2024.
