The highly anticipated revival series of Buffy the Vampire Slayer has finally cast the new lead who will star alongside Sarah Michelle Gellar.

Earlier this year, it was announced that Hulu has given a pilot order to the Buffy the Vampire Slayer revival series that will focus on a new slayer mentored by Buffy. Gellar will reprise her iconic role and serve as executive producer.

Ryan Kiera Armstrong to Star in Buffy the Vampire Slayer Revival

It was announced that Star Wars: Skeleton Crew star Ryan Kiera Armstrong will play the new vampire slayer in the Buffy the Vampire Slayer revival series.

She will be starring in the Hulu pilot alongside Gellar, who will be reprising the role of Buffy Summers.

It was Gellar herself who broke the news to Armstrong that she would be taking the mantle. A clip from their Zoom meeting was shared online.

"I know this process has been hard, and there’s been so many parts. There was just sort of one part of it that I just wanted to ask you, and I wanted to make sure that you were okay with: How do you feel about helping me save the world?" Gellar said to Armstrong.

"Good," the 15-year-old actress replied.

Gellar asked again, "You want to be my chosen one? Will you stand by my side and save the world?" Armstrong broke down in tears.

"Ryan, we all love you, and from the second we all saw your tape, there was nobody else in our eyes that could do it, that we wanted to do it with. And I am so excited to stand by your side and have you be my partner on this journey," Gellar continued.

Eventually, Armstrong said yes to the offer, and she thanked Gellar for choosing her to be the new star.

What to Expect in Buffy the Vampire Slayer Revival Series

According to reports, the Buffy the Vampire Slayer revival series will focus on a new teenage vampire slayer.

Gellar is reprising the role of Buffy Summers. She will only join as a recurring player and is not expected to be a series regular. She is also involved as one of the executive producers.

Poker Face's Nora Zuckerman and Lila Zuckerman will serve as the showrunners, writers, and executive producers of the project. Oscar winner Chloe Zhao is also attached to executive produce and direct the pilot.

Original series showrunner Joss Whedon is NOT expected to be involved in the project following the allegations of a toxic workplace environment from cast members a few years ago.
