The dashing Oscar François de Jarjayes is set to return to theaters as the release date window for MAPPA’s new Rose of Versailles anime film has been confirmed. In addition, more information, including the cast and staff, has also been revealed in a new promotional video.
Rose of Versailles Anime Movie Gets Early 2025 Release Window
The new Rose of Versailles anime film was first announced in September 2022 after an official website for the upcoming film opened and posted an announcement video and key visual.
Nearly two years have passed, and a second promotional video has been released, which confirms that the new Rose of Versailles anime film is getting an early 2025 release date window.
The announcement video showed the iconic characters of Ryoko Ikeda’s timeless manga series, from Oscar, Marie Antoinette, and André to Hans Axel.
In addition, the main voice cast for the upcoming film has been unveiled, and they are as follows:
- Miyuki Sawashiro (Maria in Arakawa Under the Bridge) as Oscar François de Jarjayes
- Aya Hirano (Dende in Dragon Ball Super) as Marie Antoinette
- Toshiyuki Toyonaga (Junichiro Tanizaki in Bungo Stray Dogs) as André Grandier
- Kazuki Kato (Kaito Aen in Kaito x Ansa) as Hans Axel von Fersen
Ai Yoshimura (Daily Lives of High School Boys) is directing the film at MAPPA, with Tomoko Konparu (Ashita no Nadja) in charge of the script and Mariko Oka (Hell Girl) handling character designs.
The Rose of Versailles Anime Movie Exact Release Date Predictions
The new Rose of Versailles anime film is set to arrive in Japanese theaters in early 2025, but the teaser’s title translates to “early spring,” while the original Japanese text also means the New Year’s period.
Should the new Rose of Versailles anime film have an “early spring” release date window, then it’s likely to come out sometime in April 2025, but should the release date window be within the New Year’s period, then it’s likely to arrive sometime in January 2025.
There’s no word on international release dates yet, but it’s likely to come out overseas six to 12 months after its Japanese premiere, based on previous releases.
What Could the New Rose of Versailles Movie Adapt?
Based on the trailers alone, the new Rose of Versailles film could begin by reintroducing viewers to the central characters, Oscar François de Jarjayes and Marie Antoinette.
It's also possible that the movie would touch on several significant incidents from the manga series, such as the scandal involving the diamond necklace, Marie Antoinette's contentious friendship with the Duchess of Polignac, and so forth, to provide additional dramatic and emotional depth.
When Riyoko Ikeda's masterpiece hits the big screen in 2025, fans will be able to relive the exquisite and turbulent world of 18th-century France alongside Oscar, Marie Antoinette, and the anime's colorful cast of characters.
