Robert Rodriguez Confirms Alita Sequel Is Already In Motion

Christoph Waltz and Jon Landau have been quite clear on making the Alita: Battle Angel sequel happen.

Apart from Waltz' excitement to rejoin the film in its sequel, Landau previously confirmed they have already talked with the original director, Robert Rodriguez.

Alita: Battle Angel was released back in 2019, and its cliffhanger ending has made fans devastated by waiting around for updates on a sequel happening anytime soon.

Well, now, Rodriguez has taken it upon himself to speak about their current plans for Alita 2!

“Yeah, we have been talking about [Alita: Battle Angel sequel], so we would love to make one,” Rodriguez said in a recent interview with Total Film.

“We haven’t set it for sure yet, but we’re definitely hoping to and talking about it a lot.” Rodriguez added, “They’re slammed with all the Avatar stuff, but they’ve definitely been engaging in it.”

Making the Alita sequel amid the WGA strike would put the sequel in bad shape, especially since the majority of production of ongoing series and film have halted to make way for Hollywood’s writers to get what they want: fair compensation and job security.

While there are plenty of films and series that have completed their scripts ahead of the strike, this wouldn’t include the possible rewrites in the duration of filming.

Not to mention, should the WGA strike succeed, only then will the Alita sequel come to fruition on full throttle.

It is also worth noting that Jon Landau is involved in making James Cameron’s Avatar 3, which could also extend up to Avatar 5, given that they have previously filmed some of the shots prior to Avatar: The Way of Water.

Alita: Battle Angel stars Rosa Salazar as the titular cyborg, alongside Christoph Waltz, Mahershala Ali, Jennifer Connelly, and Ed Skrein.

There are no official release dates yet for the Alita sequel. For now, Alita: Battle Angel is available to stream on various platforms.
