This just in: A Quiet Place: Day One director Michael Sarnoski rose as a surprising new frontrunner to take over from Fede Álvarez as the Alien: Romulus sequel director, despite initial plans involving the 2024 helmer to collaborate with Ridley Scott.

While Sarnoski is gearing up to lead the project, recent leaks suggest the real reason for the change was a creative 'tug-of-war' over the franchise's history.

Trusted leaker @ViewerAnon (via SFF Gazette) recently claimed that Álvarez's real reason for stepping away from the Alien franchise comes from the fact that producer Sir Ridley Scott stopped him from bringing back a familiar face from Prometheus and Alien: Covenant.

"Curious when we'll learn the real truth, but I heard Fede and Ridley were butting heads A LOT and that led to Fede's exit," the insider wrote on X, "A friend I trust told me Fede wanted to bring [Michael] Fassbender back as David, and Ridley shut him down pretty hard."

Reports suggest that Álvarez hoped to bridge the franchise's timeline by having the rogue android David appear in the sequel. However, Scott allegedly vetoed the move to protect the character's arc for his own future projects.

For now, this rumor should be taken with a grain of salt, as it has not been confirmed by the studio.

But Álvarez noted that while James Cameron and David Fincher only made 'one-and-done' films, "Obviously, Ridley [Scott] created it, he has the right to make a bunch of them."
