Rachel McAdams Returns to Her Role in Doctor Strange in The Multiverse of Madness

The actress is fresh from her stellar performance in the Netflix musical comedy titled, Eurovision. As the actress gained good reviews for her comedic acting chops, fans are wondering whether she will be returning to the MCU.

Months of speculation focused on the question of whether Rachel McAdams will reprise her role in the next installment of the Doctor Strange film. McAdams' character, Dr. Christine Palmer, will make her return to the Marvel Cinematic Universe. When Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness was announced during the San Diego Comic-Con in 2019, there were almost no talks on whether the Mean Girls actress would be coming back to the franchise.

Sam Raimi is taking over as director for the film franchise which seems to be focused on heading in a more ‘magical direction. Raimi replaced original director Scott Derrickson who left the project in January 2020 due to creative differences. Derrickson will remain as the executive producer while Raimi takes hold of the reigns for the directorial position. These changes left fans to wonder whether Christine Palmer ends up like Thor's Jane Foster (Natalie Portman). Fans do not have to worry as this will not be the case.

Deadline reported that McAdams closed a deal in returning to the franchise. Benedict Cumberbatch is also reportedly set to reprise his title role in the film. Marvel hasn't commented about the reported reprisal of roles for the next Doctor Strange film.

Other actors and actresses are also set to reprise their roles such as Chiwetel Ejiofor for the character of Strange's nemesis Karl Mordo. Elizabeth Olsen was also tapped to return to her role as Scarlet Witch, also known as Wanda Maximoff. Shadow Wolves actress Xochitl Gomez is also reportedly joining the cast.

The details of the plot are still unknown. As of the moment, there are no reports on how big McAdams' role will be in the film. The production for Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness will begin after Cumberbatch is done filming his Spider-Man role where the actor will also play the role of Doctor Strange.

Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness is set for a 2021 release.
