Prince Harry is reportedly not contented with his life despite his wealth and being privileged because he lives comparing himself to a future king, his brother, Prince William, according to an expert.
Prince Harry Is Discontented, A Psychiatrist Claims
Psychologist Raj Persaud explored Prince Harry's actions and said the royal is not satisfied with his life in a video for Talk TV. The expert said Prince Harry was living with what is called the "comparison effect." Persaud believed that the younger royal spent much of his time comparing himself to Prince William, and that's why he never reached a point of contentment in his life.
"The psychology of the comparison effect says that you never feel good about how well you're doing in life, in some kind of objective sense," he said, according to Showbiz CheatSheet.
"Instead, it's always a comparison. If everyone you went to school with have all become multi-millionaires and you're doing pretty well, but you're not a multi-millionaire, the comparison effect means that you feel unhappy with your lot."
The expert noted that when someone compares themselves to others, regardless of how they are actually doing, they will not attain satisfaction, especially when the other person is always above them. In the case of King Charles' two sons — Prince William is the future king, and Prince Harry is unlikely to be one.
"How good you feel about your life, isn't dependent on how well you're actually doing, it depends on who you compare yourself to. In this particular case, maybe Harry, or someone second in line to the throne of England, would always be comparing themselves to the first in line and maybe that comparison means that no matter how well they're doing, they never feel they're doing as well as the person they're comparing themselves to."
The expert found the theory interesting because Prince Harry has been living a privileged life and is very well financially. However, he is still discontented. The expert said the comparison theory clearly explains Prince Harry's dissatisfaction in his life.
"Well, comparison theory says it's obvious why he's discontent. No matter how well he's doing, he's always comparing himself to his older brother and he will never be the king of England."
Prince Harry Speaks Up About Being Prince William's Spare
In January, Prince Harry dropped his memoir Spare. In the book, he detailed how he was the "shadow, the support, the Plan B" to the future king.
Prince Harry claimed his family had made it clear to him that he was the spare. He reportedly heard it from his parents, King Charles and Princess Diana, and even from his grandparents, Queen Elizabeth and Prince Philip.

Prince Harry said he was brought to the world as a "distraction" and probably a "donor" for Prince William.
"I was brought into the world in case something happened to Willy," he wrote.
"I was summoned to provide back-up, distraction, diversion and, if necessary, a spare part. Kidney, perhaps. Blood transfusion. Speck of bone marrow. This was all made explicitly clear to me from the start of life's journey and regularly reinforced thereafter."
