Prince Harry and Meghan Markle have always put on a united front in public. However, they have different perspectives about their brand image, which may spark tension between them, according to a marketing expert.
Prince Harry And Meghan Markle Have Very Different Brand Images
The Duke and Duchess of Sussex are a picture of a happy couple every time they are out in public. They are always in sync and the royal couple even mirrors each other's body language. However, that isn't always the case.
Pauline Maclaran, professor of marketing and consumer research at Royal Holloway, University of London, weighed in on the couple's branding. Markle was an actress before she married Prince Harry, who grew up in a royal household. According to the marketing expert, they have different branding.
"Individually, they have had very different brand images," Maclarad told Express.co.uk.
She noted that Markle is "a (previously) minor Hollywood celebrity associated with the Suits brand." Meanwhile, her husband, Prince Harry, was embedded in the "Royal Family brand."
Celebrities and royalties do not have the same branding and mixing the two can be confusing. It could also create tension, which the expert believed was the case when Prince Harry and Markle were still working royals in the U.K.
"The mix of these different brand cultures is bound to create tensions at times and certainly did when Meghan tried to be a working royal during their time in England," she explained.
However, now that they are already in Markle's place, it's also Prince Harry who is showing signs of discomfort.
Prince Harry Not Comfortable With Meghan Markle's Hollywood Celebrity Branding
The Royal Fever co-author noticed that Prince Harry is not comfortable with his wife's image branding. According to her, it was evident when the royal couple attended the NAACP Image Awards to receive the Presidential Award. Both took the stage for their joint acceptance speech.
However, many noticed that Prince Harry appeared anxious on stage while his wife was very comfortable. The disparity of their body language during the event shows their different branding.
