King Charles wants Prince Harry and Meghan Markle present at his coronation day. However, Queen Elizabeth's former aide doesn't think the Sussexes are trustworthy.
Queen's Former Aide Sides With Prince William About Prince Harry, Meghan's Attendance At Coronation
Dr. Gavin Ashenden, a British Catholic layman, author and commentator, who was also appointed as Chaplain to the Queen from 2008 until his resignation in 2017, weighed in on the Duke and Duchess of Sussex's attendance at King Charles' coronation. Several sources said His Majesty wanted the Sussexes present at the event.
However, Ashenden said Prince Harry "can't be trusted." He also sides with Prince William, who reportedly doesn't think his brother should be there following his attacks against the family in his memoir, Spare.
"I'm flabbergasted that anybody thinks any good can come out of this. I'm not flabbergasted in the sense that the Archbishop presents himself as having great skills in this area, but I think I'm with William," he said on GB News, Express reported.
"I don't think Harry can be trusted not to pull off some kind of stunt. After all, he and Meghan depend entirely on publicity. And I think before they will be capable of being invited to such a public space they should show that they've become trustworthy and I don't think there's the time or the opportunity to do that."
King Charles Urged To Be Courageous In Facing Prince Harry Drama
His Majesty was reportedly eager to have the Sussexes around on his coronation despite the drama they started against the royal family. King Charles even asked the help of the Archbishop of Canterbury to persuade the couple, Express reported.
However, Prince William was reportedly not supportive of the idea. But the British monarch allegedly argued that the Sussexes' absence would cause more noise than their presence.
GB News' correspondent Patrick Christys urged the King not to be afraid to exclude Prince Harry from the event.
"I think poor Charles should be a bit more courageous," he said.
"I think the nation will understand entirely that he has a rogue son and his family is slightly dysfunctional. I’d be far better to have clarity rather than some kind of cosmetic nice patch over the whole thing."
"I think it's best just best to accept that Harry and Meghan have gone and they go on with the people they can trust who are left," he added.
He also raised some concerns about the Sussexes' trustworthiness, especially about Markle.
"First of all, Meghan had no difficulty lying in front of the Archbishop when she said he'd secretly married her a few days earlier, so I don't think we can set much stall by that," he continued, adding that it would be better if the Sussexes would not come.
