The Primetime trailer opens with Robert Pattinson’s transformed appearance as Chris Hansen, perfectly mimicking his hair, makeup, and wardrobe as he inches closer to a “predator.”

“I’m Chris Hansen from Dateline NBC, and we’re doing a story about adults who try to meet teens online,” the actor says in the clip.

As the investigation unfolds, the trailer reveals the growing scale of the operation and the soaring popularity of To Catch a Predator. In fact, Hansen himself believes it could become “bigger than Lost.”

However, as he becomes increasingly consumed by his work and the show's fame, he sets his sights on catching “a whale” instead of “bottom-feeders,” showing the toll that comes with turning dangerous justice operations into primetime entertainment.

The Primetime trailer quickly set social media ablaze, not just because of its story but also because of Pattinson’s incredible transformation–not to mention his acting prowess.

In several posts on X, fans had nothing but praise for the actor, with many applauding his performance.

“Robert Pattinson following the DiCaprio trajectory where at first you think he's a talentless pretty boy getting by on his looks and then ages into a serious actor,” author Rob Henderson wrote.

“Pattinson playing Chris Hansen is wilder to me than him playing Batman,” another said.

“Robert Pattinson as Chris Hansen? This is one of those castings you have to see to believe. PRIMETIME looks intense.”

“It’s so f****nnng underrated how Robert Pattinson literally altered the way he uses his vocal cords to create a voice that shouldn’t even be possible. What an actor, man.”

With that said, many fans believe Pattinson is worthy of an Oscar for his portrayal of Chris Hansen in Primetime.

Primetime

Primetime follows Chris Hansen (Robert Pattinson) and the origins of his TV news magazine segment To Catch a Predator as he makes television history in the 2000s.

The now-defunct series, which premiered in 2004 and ended in 2007, saw Hansen confront suspected child predators after they arrived at a sting house, where they were ultimately arrested before they could meet someone they believed to be a minor.

However, the show eventually came to an end after three years following a highly controversial 2006 sting operation in Texas involving Assistant District Attorney Bill Conradt.

According to reports, Conradt communicated online with the show's decoy, who was posing as a 13-year-old boy. Although he never arrived at the sting house, police officers, accompanied by the Dateline NBC crew, went to his home to serve a search warrant. When officers entered the residence, they discovered that Conradt had died by suicide.

At the time, Hansen maintained that the series had simply run its course after three years on the air. However, the Conradt incident has long been regarded as the primary reason behind the show's cancellation.

Primetime is scheduled to hit theaters on September 25.
