It looks like Pokemon the Movie: Mewtwo Strikes Back Evolution isn't a continuation of the new movie-verse started with I Choose You. Instead, the movie will be a CGI remake of the original film that came out 21 years ago, which is a bit surprising. To celebrate the film's July release, The Pokemon Company has released a new trailer for the film that gives us our first look at Ash, Brock, and Misty in CGI.
To be honest, the three characters look a bit odd. Maybe it's because we're all used to seeing this trio drawn in 2D animation but these character models are going to take some getting used to. They aren't horrible by any means but, let's be honest, it looks like they came from an early Gamecube game. Here's hoping they look better in future trailers.
From what can be seen, the trailer seems to indicate that the CGI film will follow similar beats to the original 2D movie. Clones of Charizard, Blastoise, and Venusaur can be seen, which will likely lead to an epic fight between all of them. Will the English dub use Brother My Brother from Blessid Union of Souls? That would be a fun callback.
Pokemon the Movie: Mewtwo Strikes Back Evolution will be coming out in Japan on July 12. No Western release date has been announced, though one will likely be announced for later this year.
