The Pluto anime has been available on Netflix for a few days now, and there are already lots of anime fans online heaping praise for the series. If you need some more convincing though, notable video game director Hideo Kojima recently shared a glowing recommendation for Netflix’s Pluto anime.
Kojima shared his thoughts on the series via his official X (formerly Twitter) account. There, he had nothing but good things to say about the show’s animation and voice acting.
This isn’t the first time that Kojima has recommended an anime. He has mentioned several anime titles he has enjoyed over the past year.
Hideo Kojima: An Unexpected Anime Connoisseur
Hideo Kojima is arguably one of the most well-known video game directors ever. After all, not only did he pioneer the stealth game genre with Metal Gear, but he also directed Death Stranding, a one-of-a-kind action game.
Aside from being a popular director, Kojima is also noted for being a huge cinephile, as well as a music lover. On X, Kojima routinely shares the latest films he’s watched and the music he’s listening to.
Kojima hasn’t shared much when it comes to anime, but that changed last year when he began recommending some interesting shows.
For starters, Kojima revealed that he accidentally came across Lycoris Recoil while looking for a movie. He soon became a big fan and has since been a big advocate for the series.
He has also recommended other anime from 2022, including Cyberpunk: Edgerunners and Summer Time Rendering.
Now, Kojima finally has a 2023 anime recommendation, and it’s none other than Pluto.

Netflix’s Pluto Gets Top Recommendation From Kojima
The Pluto anime was highly anticipated by some anime fans as it’s the first project by Studio M2, the studio by Madhouse and MAPPA co-founder Masao Maruyama.
In Kojima’s post about the anime, he praised Maruyama’s production work, as well as the voice cast for bringing the characters to life.
Kojima also said that the anime is a great rendition of Naoki Urasawa’s original manga and that it features the “soul of Osamu Tezuka.”
This is high praise given how respected Kojima’s opinion is, even among anime fans. Kojima isn’t the only one recommending the show though, as it’s also getting a lot of great reviews.
Pluto is now streaming worldwide exclusively on Netflix. Unlike typical anime shows, this series has only eight episodes, but each episode is around an hour long.
