Chappell Roan recently opened up about the backlash that she's been receiving from the public ever since she rose to fame.

While the Grammy-winning singer is being celebrated as one of the most exciting music artists today, she has received criticism from some people for her candid comments and actions that were seen as polarizing.

In a conversation with SZA for Interview magazine, Roan addressed the backlash that she has received from the public and how she is handling her fame.

"I didn’t, until people started hating me for me and not for my art. When it’s not about my art anymore, it’s like, ‘They hate me because I’m Kayleigh, not because they hate the songs that I make.’ That’s when it changed," she said.

"When things are taken out of context, people assume so much about you. I didn’t realize I’d care so much."

Roan continued, "When it comes to my art, I’m like, ‘B*tch, you can think whatever you want. You are allowed to hate it with all your guts.’ But when it comes to me and my personality, it’s like, ‘Damn. Am I the most insufferable b*tch of our generation?'"

The Grammy winner admitted that she's been deeply hurt by the criticisms that she is getting.

"It makes me cry. I don’t know if it will ever feel okay to hear someone say something really hateful about me," she said.

In terms of calling out the photographers who have been rude to her at red carpet, Roan said, "I will yell at a b*tch on the carpet. I think that right now in my career, I’m just trying to see if the way I’ve been doing it is sustainable. Am I okay with the backlash of speaking my mind? That’s where I am right now."

What Are Chappell Roan's Future Plans in Her Career?

After winning her first Grammy earlier this year, Roan is expected to produce and release more music in the future.

However, in an interview last month, she revealed that she is also considering the idea of potentially jumping into acting after a conversation with director John Waters.

"One of my idols! And I was talking about how there are only so many ‘firsts’ you can have with your career. And he said, ‘No, no, no — there are all the firsts to go through when you become an actress!" she said.

While Roan shot down the idea that she could be a screen performer, Water continued to encourage the Grammy winner to she should consider jumping into acting.

She added, "‘Every singer is an actress!’ And I was like, okay, maybe I am! Damn! If John Waters says I’m an actress, maybe I am!"
