Percy Jackson and the Olympians star almost debuted as Kidpool in Deadpool & Wolverine. Of every listed Deadpool variant, Kidpool was teased as early as Deadpool 2, and while it makes sense for Walker Scobell to play the role, especially given his history with Ryan Reynolds, here's why he couldn't.
Walker Scobell Was Almost Kidpool in Deadpool & Wolverine
There is no doubt that Ryan Reynolds has a soft spot for his The Adam Project co-star Walker Scobell. In fact, enough to have him do a cameo of Kidpool, aka one of the Merc with the Mouth's variants in the threequel.
However, Scobell recently revealed why he couldn't come on set and don the Kidpool suit when he was interviewed during the D23 2024: The Ultimate Disney Fan Event.
"There was a little bit of talks, like maybe, Kid or Teenpool, or something like that, but I grow a lot and I'm super busy with Percy [Jackson and the Olympians]," Scobell added, "It didn't make sense for the time."
Deadpool & Wolverine director Shawn Levy actually gave him a call to tell him it wasn't happening. Still, it was "all he could ever ask for" since he didn't even know he was being considered for the role in the first place.
In the end, Deadpool & Wolverine's Kidpool went to Ryan Reynolds' seven-year-old daughter, Inez Reynolds, whom Ryan recently revealed on his Instagram post. Apparently, she was the "only co-star he argued with" on set, who's also "pretty good at backtalk" and "never taking out the trash."
Scobell made his acting debut working alongside Ryan Reynolds on The Adam Project in 2022. The 15-year-old actor impressed Reynolds when he could recite the R-rated Deadpool movie from memory.
He would have been fitting to be the younger and "dirtiest" version of Deadpool who told off the Earth-616 Merc to "take Wolverine's d*** out of his mouth" in the threequel.
While Walker Scobell seemingly missed his chance to make his official MCU debut behind the mask, there are plenty of future Deadpool-centered storylines the comic book franchise could do.
