The Fantastic Four: First Steps star Pedro Pascal recently addressed the backlash that he received when he was cast as Reed Richards.
When it was announced that the Emmy nominee would be playing the Fantastic Four leader, some fans questioned the decision as they cast doubt on whether he is the right actor for the role.
What Does Pedro Pascal Think of the Backlash?
In an interview with Vanity Fair, Pascal weighed in on the backlash that he received when he was cast in The Fantastic Four: First Steps and shared that he is aware of such reactions.
"I’m more aware of disgruntlement around my casting than anything I’ve ever done," he said. "[Some people said,] 'He’s too old. He’s not right. He needs to shave.'"
Pascal also revealed that he took help from Robert Downey Jr. to navigate the new path of being one of the stars of the MCU.
"He’s just so immediately generous and inviting that you feel like you can be afraid, you can be hungry, you can be ambivalent," he said.
Downey gave his compliment to Pascal when he was asked to comment. "Pascal’s slow trajectory to becoming a household name who is on a wildly hot streak kind of reaffirms my faith in our industry," he told the outlet.
Pascal's co-star Vanessa Kirby, who is playing Sue Storm, also backed Pascal and took note of "his immense vulnerability."
"He doesn’t have much armor, so he shows himself to you straight away, and you trust that person because he’s revealing himself to you in this very brave way," she said.
