After a 15-year hiatus, the vulgar angels are finally coming back in Daten City to continue their irreverent, boundary-pushing adventures in Studio Trigger’s 2025 revival of Panty & Stocking with Garterbelt.
Following Studio Trigger’s acquisition of the anime rights from Gainax in 2022, the studio announced its plans to produce a sequel to the cult classic featuring the beloved Anarchy sisters. The original voice cast and production staff are also set to return.
With fans waiting for over a decade, and promises of an even wilder ride than the first, here’s what to expect from the anime’s highly anticipated Panty & Stocking with Garterbelt.
What is the New Panty & Stocking with Garterbelt is About?
The new Panty & Stocking with Garterbelt will see the return of angelic siblings Panty and Stocking after being exiled from Heaven for their bad behavior.
After the original series ended on a weird but totally appropriate cliffhanger, its continuation is expected to pick up the loose ends of the previous season finale, where Stocking revealed she was a demon and cut Panty into 666 tiny pieces.
The major plot twist also showed that Corset reappeared as a blob and revealed that there was another gate of Hell that Brief had to open to resurrect Panty.
However, knowing the series struggles with continuity, it remains to be seen what will really happen next.
According to the trailer, Panty and Stocking will continuously work with Scanty and Kneesocks. This also confirmed that the sisters will stay on the two’s side, likely to oppose the new angels, Polyester and Polyurethane.
But no matter how the story goes, the new season is expected to be as weird original, if not much absurd, than the original.
Will the New Panty & Stocking with Garterbelt Be Raunchier Than the Original?
The new Panty & Stocking with Garterbelt may be even raunchier than the original, as it will be released in two versions: a censored version and an uncensored one, the latter dubbed the “original” version.
The returning series will stream on Amazon Prime, which is known for featuring mature and graphic content. So, fans can expect a sexier version of Panty and Stocking’s chaotic adventures that may even be more thrilling than the original.
However, American fans may not get the full experience due to legal restrictions. Anime has been long censored on Western streaming services, with some shows never even getting licensed because of their explicit content.
That being said, they may not get the chance to see Panty & Stocking with Garterbelt’s explicit content.
But as the series promises to be more fun than the first, they’re still up for a good time.
The new Panty & Stocking with Garterbelt is set to premiere on July 9 on Japanese stations., while its uncensored version will air on July 15 on satellite network AT-X. The series will also stream globally on Amazon Prime.
