Original Ghosbusters Star Dan Aykroyd Has Written A Prequel Movie For The Franchise

It looks like Ghostbusters star Dan Aykroyd is interested in making a Ghostbusters prequel.

Speaking in an interview with The Canadian Press (via Heroic Hollywood), Aykyroyd reveals that he has actually already written a script for a Ghostbusters prequel project he titles Ghostbusters High. Though the actor is still in the middle of the scriptwriting the process, he hopes that he can work on his film after Jason Reitman complete's his upcoming sequel, Ghostbusters 4.

According to Aykyroyd, his script is a 60's era Ghostbusters prequel that features the younger days of the original team members.

"[…] I've written "Ghostbusters High," where they meet in New Jersey in 1969 and we're looking to do that as probably a glorified feature or pilot within the next maybe five years…. And it would lead to a television project and I thought of him immediately for that," Aykyroyd reveals. "It's on his desk but that's years away from the current project. But it's a neat idea for a prequel. Imagine casting the three characters as teenagers!"

While Akyrkoyd is excited to work on his Ghostbusters High movie, the actor adds that he hopes to see at least two more concepts come to life after Reitman works on his Ghostbusters 4 sequel.

"We have other stuff after the Jason Reitman-helmed movie. We have at least one or two other concepts for the "Ghostbusters" and then we'll look at doing the prequel, which will be a perfect button on all we've done up to that point," the actor says.

This is pretty big news. Ghostbusters fans were pretty hyped when Reitman announced that he was working on Ghostbusters 4. The announcement came along with a teaser clip, one that promised that the film would continue the vein of the Ghostbusters franchise – a huge relief to the fanbase after the disappointment brought about by the Ghostbusters reboot by Paul Feig.

Now, aside from Reitman's movie, fans have another project to look forward to, and this time by an original Ghostbusters star to boot.

Ghostbusters 4 is set for release sometime in 2020.
