- Quick Answer: Netflix's live-action Assassin’s Creed series began filming in March 2026 at Cinecittà Studios, featuring an original narrative set in ancient Rome.
An Assassin’s Creed TV series is set to hit the small screen soon, but one of the franchise’s original stars, Abubakar Salim, stresses that Netflix must get one thing right to succeed.
Netflix officially greenlit the live-action adaptation of Ubisoft’s hit video game franchise in July 2025.
As production is now underway, can the streaming giant’s adaptation be as massively successful as the game?
How Can Netflix Make Assassin’s Creed a Success?

First released in 2007, Assassin’s Creed now has 14 main titles, with the most recent being 2025’s Assassin’s Creed Shadows.
With this wealth of content available for adaptation, Abubakar Salim, who played the lead character Bayek of Siwa in Assassin’s Creed Origins, believes the streaming series should focus on preserving the elements that made the games successful instead of reinventing or deviating too far from its source material.
“However, especially with something like Assassin's Creed, where it's had so many years in the game space, you have to listen to the fans there in regards to really paying service and homage to it, because it's one of those where it's so easy to try and innovate on it when it doesn't really need innovation,” he told ScreenRant.
As someone whose performance helped Origins become one of the most popular entries in the franchise, Salim believes the key to making the live-action adaptation succeed is to “think of the community that brought it to life,” and give fans what they have loved from the very beginning.
“When it comes to storytelling, especially in the TV medium, it's very different from games,” he continued.
So, he believes the show should stick to its core, “which is the creed itself,” its “historical elements, and the core modern-day stuff.”
“I think actually more so with the past stuff, with being the assassin in the past, that's the historical aspect of it, which is really, really cool,” he added. “So as long as they can respect that and do it really well and do justice there, I think we're laughing. But yeah, we'll see.”
Salim also urged Netflix to remain respectful of the gaming community that has been loyal to the IP since its inception.
Given the countless hours players invest in exploring the world of Assassin’s Creed and its characters, he believes they should be considered in the adaptation rather than simply altering how the story flows.
“They live in this stuff, they breathe this stuff. So get them hyped, get them excited, but also tell a really good story,” Salim added.
