A new rumor suggests that Adam Driver might not be playing Magneto after all in the long-awaited MCU reboot of X-Men.

For the last several days, there have been rumors and speculations online that the Star Wars actor is being eyed to play the fan-favorite mutant in the MCU version of X-Men. According to a recent report from Nexus Point News, Adam Driver will be playing a different villain in the MCU reboot of X-Men, not Magneto as suggested by previous rumors.

Instead, he is allegedly being eyed to play William Stryker, another notable villain in the X-Men comics. So far, Marvel Studios has not commented on the rumor.

In case you're not familiar with the character, William Stryker is a former Army sergeant who has a deep-seated hatred of mutants and became involved with the Weapon X program. He was previously portrayed by Brian Cox in X2 and Danny Huston in X-Men Origins: Wolverine.

In addition, the report suggested that Tramell Tillman, who is set to make his MCU debut as William Metzger in Spider-Man: Brand New Day, will reprise the role in the X-Men MCU reboot.

Just like William Stryker, William Metzger is another character in the X-Men comics who is also known to have a deep hatred of the mutants and is part of the Anti-Mutant Militia.

While the new update might disappoint some fans, it looks like Driver is still being eyed to be part of the MCU and play an X-Men villain, albeit not on the level of Magneto. Nevertheless, someone who has the caliber of talent like him would be an exciting addition to the film.

For now, stay tuned for more news and updates regarding the casting news on the MCU reboot of X-Men in the coming months.

So far, plot details for the X-Men MCU reboot are still under wraps, and it is expected to take place sometime after Avengers: Secret Wars.

Thunderbolts* director Jake Schreier is currently attached to helm the project. Beef creator Lee Sung Jin and The Bear co-showrunner Joanna Calo are writing the screenplay.

Last year, Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige gave a tease on what fans should expect from their reboot of the X-Men property.

"We had a great experience with him on Thunderbolts*. And if you saw that movie, what he did with those character interactions, he also has his pulse on, shall we say, a younger demographic," he said.

"He’s younger than me for sure, but he’s tapped into that in a way that I think was important for Thunderbolts*, much more important for X-Men. Because X-Men, as it was in the comics, will be a very youth-oriented, focused, and cast movie."
