With Cyberpunk 2077 looking to be one of CD Projekt Red's most ambitious projects to date, it's clear that this game could be the start of a franchise. Add the success of The Witcher, which will soon be getting a Netflix series, and it's clear that the sky's the limit for this awesome developer. It looks like these two games will be the company's main IPs from now on since a new report has suggested that more installments from both franchises will eventually be made.
During the company's latest financial report (via IGN), the studio revealed that they are moving towards a "dual-franchise" business model that will have them making games for both IPs. This probably won't be limited to mainline installments since Gwent, a spinoff game from The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt seems to be doing pretty well.
Though we would like to see other new IPs from the company, this isn't a bad business model to follow. Focusing on two major franchises and making sequels/spinoffs for them ensures that fans will buy them. The fact that CD Projekt Red is known for its quality helps since The Witcher 3 basically broke every rule for modern releases, only really asking fans to pay for the game's expansion pass.
As someone who is tempted to double-dip on The Witcher 3 for Nintendo Switch, I wish this company the best.
Cyberpunk 2077 will be coming out on April 16, 2020. The Witcher 3 will be coming to the Nintendo Switch this October.
