Netflix has just released The Witcher last weekend, and a whole new audience is going to meet Geralt of Rivia in the form of Henry Cavill. Netflix is currently pushing everyone to watch the show, and the service has just released a featurette giving us a look at the world of The Witcher.
While fantasy worlds often give themselves names like Middle-Earth or Westeros, it looks like The Witcher's setting takes place in "The Continent". Though the setting as a whole is nameless, we do have two main separations them being the Northern Realms and the Nilfgaardian Empire. Of course, this world also comes with ‘less explored' territories like the Eastern Realms and beyond the seas; they even have a mysterious "Far North" as well.
With Game of Thrones leaving a void for adult fantasy series, Netflix has greatly obliged with The Witcher. Though production value and CG are of high quality, I have to say that the show could use a bit more polishing when it comes to the dialogue. I mean, the world is definitely interesting, but every episode has to mention the word "destiny" at least 5 times; I know Geralt v Destiny is the main theme of the show, but the writers can be a bit more subtle about it.
Either way, Netflix is already pushing forward with a second season. Hopefully, it only goes up from here.
