Netflix has renewed the Mindy Kaling-created sports comedy series Running Point for season 2, only a week after its premiere.

The new series, which stars Oscar nominee Kate Hudson, arrived on the streamer last week to favorable success as it managed to top the charts and received positive responses from the audiences.

Netflix Orders Running Point Season 2 Renewal

It was recently announced that Running Point has scored an early season 2 renewal at Netflix.

The exciting news comes as the series premiered all 10 episodes of the first season a week prior. This is a sign of great confidence among the Netflix brass regarding the project.

"A good basketball team owner knows when to listen to the fans. So we hear you, and so did Netflix. Running Point is officially coming back for Season 2!" Hudson said in the announcement.

"Thank you so much everyone who watched the show so far! I’m just beyond thrilled because you’re really the reason why we’re able to come back and do another season. So thank you and we’ll see you next season!"

The first season finale ended on a cliffhanger as it saw Cam Gordon leaving rehab and attempting to regain his position as the president of the Los Angeles Waves from his sister.

What is Netflix's Running Point About?

Running Point centers on Isla Gordon (Hudson), who was appointed president of the Los Angeles Waves, one of the most storied professional basketball franchises, and her family business after a scandal forces her brother Cam to resign.

Ambitious and often overlooked, Isla will have to prove to her skeptical brothers, the board, and the larger sports community that she is the right choice for the job.

From the hitmaking team of Mindy Kaling, Ike Barinholtz, and David Stassen, Running Point puts a bold twist on the underdog comedy.

The series also stars Brenda Song, Drew Tarver, Scott MacArthur, Fabrizio Guido, Toby Sandeman, Chet Hanks, Jay Ellis, Max Greenfield and Justin Theroux.

Los Angeles Lakers president Jeanie Buss is also involved as one of the executive producers of the series. The story is partly inspired by her experience leading the famed basketball team.
