Netflix is giving its subscribers more reasons to escape the August heat. While we might have to wait a bit longer for the new seasons of The Witcher, Stranger Things, and You, the streaming service will be releasing new original films and TV shows you may not want to miss. Netflix will be releasing some exciting new anime titles, a new Ryan Murphy documentary project, a smart comedy series, and a highly-anticipated teen rom-com.
The new Witcher anime series Nightmare of the Wolf is coming in August 23. At the first-ever Witcher-Con in July, Netflix and CD Projekt Red shared the first teaser that features Vesemir, the Witcher who mentored Geralt during his training. He's a friend and ally to both Geralt and Ciri, and Nightmare of the Wolf will explore his story. Vesemir is also expected to appear in The Witcher Season 2.
If you're looking for more anime shows to watch on Netflix, Edens Zero, Monster Hunter: Legends of the Guild, and Shaman King will also be released in August. Season 5-6 of the popular Hunter x Hunter series will also be out at the beginning of the month.
On Aug 3, Pray Away, a new documentary from Jason Blum and Ryan Murphy, will be released on Netflix, and it's about survivors of conversion therapy and former leaders of the "pray the gay away" movement. The movie, which premiered at Treibeca Film Festival, looks back at the rise of the movement and the evolution of those who helped start it and later left to disavow their work.
One week after that, rom-com fans are getting the third and final film in the Kissing booth franchise, The Kissing Booth 3, which will be released on Aug. 11. In the final film of the trilogy, Elle (Joey King) must choose between her best friend (Joel Courtney) and her boyfriend (Jacob Elordi) when she's faced with making her final college decision.
Nine days later, Sandra Oh's new comedy The Chair hits Netflix. The Grey's Anatomy alum players Professor Ji-Yoon Kim, who works as the chair of the English department at Pembroke University.
