The hit Netflix true crime anthology series Monster has found its next case in the infamous Lizzie Borden story for its fourth season.
After tackling Jeffrey Dahmer and the Menendez Brothers, fans have been wondering which American true crime case Monster will tackle next, and it looks like they will go back to the late 19th century for an upcoming season.
What is Netflix's Monster Season 4 Going to Be About?
Variety confirmed that Netflix and Ryan Murphy are already working on a Fourth season of Monster, which will focus on the Lizzie Borden case.
Although the series has not been officially renewed for a fourth season, preparations are already underway to start filming this fall. No casting has been made yet for the role of Borden.
In case you're not familiar with the story, Lizzie Borden was accused of killing her father and stepmother with an axe in Massachusetts in 1892. She was eventually acquitted of the crimes.
Despite not being charged with a crime, Borden's case garnered widespread attention across the country and remains one of the most popular true crime stories in America to this day.
The story has already been depicted before in the Lifetime film Lizzie Borden Took an Ax and miniseries The Lizzie Borden Chronicles, both starring Christina Ricci as Lizzie Borden. Chloë Sevigny also played her in the independent film Lizzie.
What to Expect in Monster Season 3?
Season 3 of Monster is expected to premiere on Netflix this fall. It will focus on serial killer Ed Gein, and the season will be titled Monster: The Original Monster.
Charlie Hunnam will be playing the role of Gein. The cast also includes Laurie Metcalf, Tom Hollander, Olivia Williams, Addison Rae, and Suzanna Son.
In case you're not familiar with the story, Gein gained widespread attention in 1957 after authorities discovered that he had killed multiple people, exhumed corpses from graveyards, and fashioned their clothing.
His story served as the basis for the best-selling 1959 novel Psycho and the 1960 film adaptation by Alfred Hitchcock.
