Netflix Launches Mobile Games in Its Android App

Netflix is jumping into the video game space for the first time by launching mobile games within its own app at no extra cost, adding the two pre-existing Stranger Things games to its Android app — but it's only available in Poland.

The streaming giant released two games in Poland: Stranger Things: 1984 and Stranger Things 3, which have been available for years off Netflix's app, having been released through a licensing partnership in 2017 and 2019 to coincide with Season 2 and Season 3 of the hit supernatural series.

In July 2021, Netflix confirmed its plans to expand into video games, with ad-free games for mobile devices available on its platform at no additional costs to subscribers.

"The idea is to offer video games on Netflix's streaming platform within the next year," the report said, adding that "the company doesn't currently plan to charge extra for the content."

There was also a datamine that hinted a partnership with PlayStation, and according to dataminer Steve Moser, Netflix's gaming section currently has the codename 'Shark'.

Netflix games won't include in-game purchases, and they won't have ads; they will be part of the overall subscription. They haven't announced when they will launch the mobile games in other regions, but expect it within a year.
