Marvel fans were heartbroken when Netflix decided to cancel its various Marvel TV series last year. Fans weren't expecting the streaming site to axe critically-acclaimed shows like Daredevil and The Punisher, especially when the series just released successful new seasons.
Now, it looks like Marvel fans may have to take another hit.
According to the New York Times, Netflix just removed its own series Chelsea from the site. The late-night talk show was hosted by comedian Chelsea Handler and the series was original to the streaming site. Yet, it seems like Netflix had no qualms removing Chelsea from its roster.
Now, Comicbook.com speculates whether Netflix could do the same with the Marvel Netflix series that it has stored on the platform. While Marvel TV president Jeph Loeb says that it was Netflix's decision not to renew Iron Fist, Luke Cage, The Punisher, Daredevil, and Jessica Jones, speculation has it that the network may have enforced a licensing fee increase that forced Netflix to axe the series.
That, or Netflix could have simply been preparing for the inevitable. After all, Disney is preparing its own streaming site, Disney+. Once the site is launched, the Mickey Mouse House plans to migrate all of its content from Netflix to its own streaming platform.
Netflix could completely pull its Marvel TV series from its roster now, as a form of retaliation. Or it could decided to pull the shows to make room for more original content – Netflix does have a lot of new series on the way.
Let's wait and see.
Season 3 of Jessica Jones is currently streaming on Netflix.
