Netflix Drops Trippy Full Trailer for Pendleton Ward’s The Midnight Gospel

Pendleton Ward is best known for his Cartoon Network show Adventure Time, and though Finn and Jake's adventures are done, Ward has teamed up with Netflix and comedian Duncan Trussell for an animated show called The Midnight Gospel. Just in, we have the full trailer for Ward's next acid trip of a series.

Here's the official description:

Traversing trippy worlds inside his multiverse simulator, a space-caster explores existential questions about life, death and everything in between.

Unlike the usual animated series which comes with a script and story, The Midnight Gospel is said to be taking snippets from Trussell's podcast Family Hour and animating them in Ward's signature style.

With Adventure Time already walking the thin line between kid-friendly and adult-oriented, I'm really curious what he has to bring with The Midnight Gospel, seeing as he no longer has the PG constraints on the show. Besides the bright colors, you can already see that there are a lot more elements to the show that won't get past the censors.

I don't really expect a serialized show with The Midnight Gospel but rather an anthology series focused on characters just having weird conversations with trippy visuals. Knowing Adventure Time, I'm really looking forward to watching Ward let his imagination run free. If you want a teaser for what kind of material to expect from the show, you can also check out the Duncan Trussell Family Hour podcast.

The Midnight Gospel hits Netflix on April 20.
