Netflix Celebrates Luffy's Birthday With Rare One Piece Live-Action Video

It's Monkey D. Luffy's birthday and Netflix just dropped an awesome treat for the future Pirate King's special day. The cast members of the upcoming One Piece live-action series are making a rare appearance to teach people the right way to pronounce the birthday boy's name.

Netflix shared a new video in celebration of Luffy's birthday. It features Iñaki Godoy, who will play the Straw Hats leader in the live-action series.

"I know some of you are getting to know my character Luffy for the first time," he said. "His spirit of adventure, his dream to find the One Piece, his cool hat ... What can I say? He's an awesome guy."

However, Godoy also pointed out that people don't know how to pronounce Luffy's name. He then demonstrates and says it's "Loo-fee."

Emily Rudd, Mackenyu, Jacob Romero Gibson, and Taz Skylar also show up to demonstrate the right pronunciation of the name.

It's a funny video but also a huge surprise for fans who have been waiting for a chance to see the live-action Straw Hats Pirates together. Netflix has not yet shared any footage or teaser for One Piece so the new video is the closest we can get to that.

Luckily, the wait for the live-action One Piece trailer might soon be over. Creator Eiichiro Oda had previously that the series will consist of eight episodes and that Netflix is making sure the mangaka approves of the final product before dropping the show.

"It was announced that the show will launch in 2023, but they've promised that we won't launch it until I'm satisfied," Oda wrote. He then assured fans that the series is coming very soon.

"We're in the final process! Right now! Of finishing all 8 episodes," Oda wrote.

The One Piece live-action series will premiere on Netflix later in 2023.
