The latest official previews for the upcoming Magic: The Gathering set, Ikoria: Lair of Behemoths have hit the webs, with the third and last Planeswalker card of the expansion and two Ultimatum cards revealed.
The third Planeswalker card featured in Ikoria is "Narset of the Ancient Way" Check it out:
Obviously, this card will most likely see play in Jeskai Control decks that run mostly noncreature spells. Being able to pull off its ultimate looks easy enough, and can provide a kill condition in a deck full of Instants and Sorceries, but it might be difficult to protect this Planeswalker from combat or removal if you don't have the right spells to back it up since you'll have to discard a card with a high enough converted mana cost to kill a threat. Maybe it will also be viable in a Jeskai Fires or Jeskai Planeswalkers deck, but we'll have to wait and see what other cards Ikoria has to offer.
Remember the powerful Ultimatum spells from Shards of Alara block? Ikoria: Lair of Behemoths also has a cycle of Ultimatum spells in wedge colors, and two of them have been revealed today: the Sultai-colored "Emergent Ultimatum" and the Abzan-colored "Eerie Ultimatum". Here they are:
I'm sure these cards will see play in Commander but I hope they will also be viable in Standard. They're both about gaining a massive card advantage by bringing out multiple cards from the graveyard or deck without paying their mana costs.
Check out the other Ikoria cards revealed recently:
Song of Creation
Jegantha, the Wellspring (cardmarket spoiler)
Sonorous Howlbonder
Zenith Flare
Sanctuary Smasher
Bushmeat Poacher
Keensight Mentor
Frillscale Mentor
When Frillscare Mentor enters the battlefield, put a Menace counter on target non-Human creature you control. (It can't be blocked except by two or more creatures)
: Put a +1/+1 counter on each creature you control with Menace.
Twilight Master
When Twilight Master enters the battlefield, put a Lifelink counter on the target non-human creature you control.
, : Put a + 1 / + 1 counter on each creature you control with Lifelink.
