The stars of big franchises aren’t always required to be fans of said franchise, but Ms. Marvel star Iman Vellani has proven time and again that she’s one of the MCU’s biggest (and most obsessive) fans.
In a recent talk with D23, Vellani talks about how obsessed she was with Marvel even before she got cast as Kamala Khan, and she even took things a bit too personally with other people.
Iman Vellani is the Definitive Ms. Marvel
Talking to D23, Vellani was asked to reveal her favorite MCU films of all time, and not only did she name her favorite movies, but she went into detail about how obsessive she was with the MCU, even going so far as to force her family to watch the films in chronological order whenever a new movie came out.
Vellani shared, “I have always been a Marvel fan. I used to make my whole family re-watch the movies in chronological order before any new movie came out. I wrote my English essays on the MCU. I’ve painted each individual nail a different Avenger before going to see a new Avengers movie. I made theory boards. I’ve lost friendships over people being Team Cap and not Team Iron Man. I guess you could say I’m a fan...”
Knowing this, it was kind of obvious why Marvel would pick Vellani to play Kamala, as the character herself was also obsessed with the Avengers, and was even posting up her own theory videos about them in-universe.
So What Does Vellani Like?
As for the point of the interview, Vellani shares that her favorite MCU character is still Iron Man, and that’s who drew her into the MCU. So far her list of favorite MCU films includes:
- Iron Man
- Guardians of the Galaxy
- Avengers
- Captain America: Winter Soldier
- Avengers: Endgame
- Thor: Ragnarok
It’s kind of disappointing that Captain Marvel didn’t make her personal list, but it can be argued that there really isn’t enough Captain Marvel content to have people really latch on to her character.
What’s the Future for Ms. Marvel?
Though The Marvels was considered to be a huge dud for the MCU, it does seem like there are some plans for Kamala Khan down the line. Rumors have been going around that a second Ms. Marvel season is going to be in the works, but it has also been teased that Kamala is the one who is going to lead the recruitment of the Young Avengers which may or may not include Kate Bishop, Cassie Lang, America Chavez, and Wiccan.
There’s also the case that Kamala has been confirmed to be the first mutant lead in the MCU, so a lot of fans suspect that she’ll have something to do once the X-Men start coming back to the big screen. She’s already joined them in the comics, so a team-up onscreen shouldn’t be too farfetched.
