The second season of Rings of Power is almost here, and a lot of fans are excited to watch the reunion of Galadriel and Sauron.

While the two are considered to be on opposite sides of the war, it was kind of expected that fans would start shipping the two enemies, especially with their dynamic in the show. What’s funny is that even actress Morfydd Clark also believes in the ship.

Morfydd Clark on the Connection Between Galadriel and Sauron

In an interview with Games Radar, Clark discusses the ‘cosmic connection’ between the Dark Lord Sauron and the Lady of Lothlorien Galadriel. For context, Sauron actor Charlie Vickers shared that he thought something was happening between the two characters. He said:

"I think they’re connected, if not by proximity, then by their psyche… They’re higher beings, so I’m sure it runs deeper than being in the same place together."

When asked about the ‘Haladriel’ pairing, Clark agrees with Vickers’ statement, saying, "I'd agree with him, I think there is… They're both magical, powerful beings, and I think there is something lonely to existing in that kind of sphere that they both are in. But yeah, there is some sort of cosmic connection, which I've heard Charlie mention a few times. I was like 'Nice, I like that'. Yeah, and it will go on for 1000s and 1000s of years."

What the Showrunners Think about ‘Haladriel’

The implied romance between Sauron and Galadriel was admittedly one of the more surprising things about Rings of Power; it was even surprising to the showrunners who didn’t think that a Galadriel/Sauron romance could work.

As it turns out, it was writer Gennifer Hutchison who had predicted that fans would fall in love with the pair’s ‘friends-to-enemies-to-lovers’ dynamic. She even shares the clip of the showrunners admitting she was right.

“Gennifer Hutchison, an executive producer on the first two seasons, writer on the show, she said, ‘Everyone’s gonna ship these two,’ we’re like, ‘That’s crazy. They’re enemies. What are you talking about?’… So Genny, you were right,” says Patrick McKay.

‘Haladriel’ for Season 2

With the rivalry/romance established, it does look like the second season is going to be leaning in on that further. It’s not clear when the two will meet again, but Sauron does continue to run rings around the elves, coming back in another form to trick Celebrimbor to create more of the Rings of Power for the dwarves and the men.

What’s different this time though, is that Galadriel knows all about Sauron’s game now, and she’s going to be hunting him as fiercely as she did in the first season—even resorting to get help from the Father of Orcs himself, Adar.

Seeing as how everyone knows where Galadriel and Sauron end up in the Lord of the Rings trilogy, it’s going to be fun to see how the show manages to tip-toe on a romance that fans know is never going to happen. Either way, it should make for some fun television.
