The long-awaited sequel to the 2021 Netflix animated hit The Mitchells vs. the Machines is officially in the works.
For years, fans have been waiting for updates on the potential follow-up to the Oscar-nominated animated film, as they want to see more adventures with the titular family and technological chaos. Now, it looks like the wait is nearly over as Netflix is finally moving forward with a rematch.

Variety confirmed that Netflix and Sony Pictures Animation are officially working on the sequel to The Mitchells vs. the Machines. Production will begin next year.
However, fans will be expecting a major change behind the scenes, as Mike Rianda, who directed and co-wrote the first film, won't be returning for the same duties in the sequel. He is only involved as an executive producer.
Instead, Guillermo Martinez (the head of story for the first film) and JP Sans were tapped to helm the sequel, while the Molyneux sisters are writing the screenplay. Phil Lord and Chris Miller are returning as producers.
So far, the plot details regarding the sequel are still under wraps. It is also unknown whether the entire voice cast from the previous film will return, but they are likely to reprise their roles.
There is no release window set yet for the film, but fans might need to wait for a few more years, given the long timeline for making an animated movie.
