Moon Knight Producer Says The Show Stands on Its Own: "I Think You're Going to Enjoy It"

After months of being behind the spotlight, the MCU steps out again to introduce another addition to Disney+'s series expanding slate, Oscar Isaac's Moon Knight. Moon Knight is Marvel's way of stepping outside the box, centered on complex mental health disorders and Egyptian mythology, which are not usually present in a Marvel series.

Following Moon Knight's triumphant premiere last Wednesday, the audience met Steven Grant, a gift shop employee with a disassociative disorder, trying to outrun Egyptian god, Khonshu's control. The first episode also teases a glimpse of Grant's other identity, Marc Spector, who is a mercenary AKA Moon Knight. Alongside the lead character, the series also introduced the main villain, Ethan Hawke as Arthur Harrow. Harrow is a follower of Ammit, another Egyptian God who is the counterpart of Khonshu.

Moon Knight serves as an origin story for Marc Spector, solely focusing on the character's journey navigating his mental disorder and unraveling Egyptian mythology ties. While other Disney+ shows intend to a deeper understanding of an existing MCU character, Moon Knight is just an introduction to the new character.

Watching any Marvel project can be confusing if it's tied to a storyline that the viewers haven't explored yet. Marvel films and TV shows usually require the viewers to watch previous projects in order to fully understand what is going on. However, for Moon Knight, producer Grant Curtis assures that the viewers can understand the series even if it's your first dive into the MCU.

In a recent interview with ScreenRant, Moon Knight producer Grant Curtis sat down to discuss what other MCU projects the viewers should see before diving into the new Disney+ series.

Curtis explained, "Well, here's the great thing about the Moon Knight series we made. It's definitely in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, but whether you have seen all of the other Marvel Cinematic Universe offerings or this is your first deep dive, as long as you're a fan of really good storytelling, I think you're going to find an aspect of Moon Knight for you. You don't need to have that previous knowledge."

Acknowledging the Easter Eggs laid throughout the show, Curtis says that Moon Knight will still be enjoyed by viewers who are not much aware of the current MCU timeline.

"Accessible indeed. I do think, if you're a fan of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, you will see those Easter eggs that we've peppered throughout this. And I think you'll get a kick out of them. But again, if this is your first dive into the MCU, I think this globetrotting action-adventure that we take Marc Spector and Steven Grant on, I think you're going to enjoy it."

Prior to the show's release, much information about the show has been revealed. Including that the Disney+ series will be a standalone story for the new MCU newcomer and no other existing characters will be included. Even with the rumors swirling around that Mark Ruffalo's Hulk will make an appearance in the series, Moon Knight's production team seems to continue to deny these claims.

Even without the MCU ties, it's safe to predict that Moon Knight has a very bright future ahead of its debut. Marvel writers can team up Moon Knight with other MCU characters like the Avengers, or even something new like the comics' Midnight Sons.

Moon Knight Episode 1 is now streaming on Disney+.
