Millie Bobby Brown has weighed in on the backlash that she has received over her changing accents.
The Stranger Things star has been getting criticisms from some people online due to her constant switching between American and British accents depending on the people that she's surrounded with.
Millie Bobby Brown Reacts to Backlash on Changing Accents
During her recent interview on Smartless podcast, Brown addressed the criticisms that were made against her changing accents.
She called the backlash "frustrating" and decried how it was being made into a bigger deal by people than it should have.
"That was such a huge thing for a minute. I actually call it the ‘accent-gate’ because it’s so frustrating because that was everywhere," the actress said.
"Like for a second, everyone was talking about my accent, and they had a real problem about it. And I was like, ‘Guys, I’m married to an American.'"
Brown explained that she uses an American accent whenever she's with her husband Jake Bongiovi's family.
She said, "When I’m around his family, I immediately go into, like, an American accent. But then I was just in England, and then the second I hear my mom and dad’s accent, I just go right back."
Brown added that, as an actress, it is required for her job to morph into different characters, which includes changing accents.
"You want me to play these characters, but you expect me not to morph into people. What I hear is what I do. It’s all part of it," she said.
Millie Bobby Brown's New Project
As fans are waiting for the final season of Stranger Things to premiere later this year, Brown will be seen next in the new Netflix film The Electric State.
Set in the aftermath of a robot uprising in an alternate version of the ’90s, the film follows an orphaned teenager who ventures across the American West with a cartoon-inspired robot, a smuggler, and his sidekick in search of her younger brother.
Brown will play the role of Michelle, an orphaned teenager navigating life in a society where sentient robots resembling cartoons and mascots, who once served peacefully among humans, now live in exile following a failed uprising.
She will be working soon on the highly-anticipated third Enola Holmes movie and the film adaptation of her novel Nineteen Steps. Both projects are for Netflix.
