A recent report has claimed that Michael Waldron is no longer the writer of the highly-anticipated MCU team-up film Avengers 5.
Fans have been looking forward to the next Avengers movie which is expected to be the first part of the culmination of the Multiverse Saga and lead up to the events of Secret Wars.
However, the project has suffered from several setbacks throughout its development process as it lost its director and original writer. It was also initially titled "The Kang Dynasty" before it was changed in the aftermath of Jonathan Majors' firing as the MCU's Kang the Conqueror.
Michael Waldron Reportedly Left as Writer of Avengers 5
According to a recent report, Waldron is no longer attached as the writer of Avengers 5. He is still set to pen the screenplay of Avengers: Secret Wars.
There are no reasons stated regarding why the Loki creator allegedly left the movie, but with his exit, the project no longer has any writer and director attached or an official title.
So far, Marvel Studios has not confirmed the claims that were made in the report.
If the scoop ends up being true, this is a massive update for the project since it is supposedly in preparation for production next year. Waldron has likely worked on a full draft and the potential new writer will work on revising the script to race it to the finish line.
There is also a possibility that Marvel Studios has a different creative direction in mind for the fifth movie which is why they let Waldron go and have him focus on Secret Wars instead.
We will likely be hearing more details about the upcoming Avengers movie in Marvel Studios' upcoming San Diego Comic-Con Hall H presentation where they are expected to make a lot of announcements on their film slate.
Avengers 5 is slated for release in theaters on May 1, 2026.
